ANDREW DE LA RIVA

The goal of my current research is to develop a method to describe the behavior of platinum and palladium catalyst under different environmental conditions.  The goals of my work are not only beneficial to me but to other researchers encountering stability problems with catalysts.  With solutions to stability problems, catalysts will be able to maintain their surface area for a longer period of time in turn extending the lifetime of the catalyst.  Currently I use High Resolution Scanning Electron Microscopy, X-Ray Diffraction, Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and other instruments to characterize my catalysts before and after going through environmental treatments.

This research will lead me toward my Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering under my advisor Abhaya Datye.
