MARTIN DONOVAN

I was born and raised primarily in El Paso, Texas, though I spent many years growing up in Zacatecas, Mexico.  My undergraduate studies were at the University of Texas, where I majored in Organic Chemistry, and presently I am in the School of Medicine in the department of Biomedical Sciences.  My interest is in applied science, and for this reason I have worked in the College of Pharmacy studying Pharmaceutics under Dr. Hugh Smyth.  Our overall research goal is to enhance the delivery and efficacy of current FDA approved therapeutics for the treatment of lung cancer and cystic fibrosis.  Hopefully, the joint programs of IGERT and Biomedical Sciences will grant me the background necessary to be able to translate the technological advancements of nanoscience into applications that can have an immediate and beneficial impact on the quality of life of the unfortunate men, women, and children suffering from these disorders.

The NSMS IGERT Fellowship is supported by The National Science Foundation and The National Cancer Institute.
