Dr. Marek Osinski Promoted to Distinguished Professor

Distinguished Professor Marek Osinski

Congratulations are in order. Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and Center for High Technology Materials (CHTM) faculty member, Dr. Marek Osinski has recently been promoted to join UNM's highest ranking faculty members. In June, Dr. Osinski was promoted to Distinguished Professor. 

As quoted from a letter of recommendation, "Dr. Osinski's accomplishments have been recognized at the University of New Mexico, nationally, and internationally. These include, among others, being awarded twice the Distinguished Researcher Award as well as Gardner Zemke Awards in both Research and Teaching categories from the ECE Department at UNM, seven Annual Creative Awards from STC.UNM, two awards from the Minister of National Education, Poland for collaborative work on computer simulation of operation and optimization of semiconductor lasers, and serving as nominator for the 2003 and 2007 Kyoto Prize in Advanced Technology,for the 2017 and 2020 Japan Prize in Electronics, Information, and Communication, and for the 2018 Japan Prize in Physics, Chemistry, and Engineering. Nominators for these prizes are selected by invitation only. The Kyoto Prize,
established by the founder of Kyocera Corporation Kazuo Inamori, is a Japanese equivalent of Nobel Prize, with 50 million yen awards per category and very high international reputation. The Japan Prize, initiated with the donation from the founder of Panasonic Corporation Konosuke Matsushita, is the most prestigious science and engineering prize in Japan, with 50 million yen awards per category and very high international reputation. The award ceremony is held in presence of the Emperor and Empress of Japan. It is a prestigious international award presented to individuals whose original and outstanding achievements are not only scientifically impressive, but have also served to promote peace and prosperity for all mankind.”
